Fairview is a third-generation family estate, acquired by Lithuanian immigrant Charles Back in 1937. Under the guidance of his grandson, Charles Back, it has grown from a modest farm into an internationally celebrated destination for wine, cheese, and agri-tourism. Today it remains an authentic working farm, home to complementary micro-businesses united by artisanal craftsmanship—from fine wines and award-winning cheeses to baked goods and innovative plant-based products.
Visitors are welcomed by the enchanting goat tower, adored since 1981. A stroll through the gardens leads to the tasting room, where ambassadors present wine tastings paired with Fairview’s celebrated cheeses. Enthusiasts can enjoy tutored experiences in the Beryl Back Master Tasting Room, while younger guests are treated to a fun tasting with milder cheeses and lemonade.
Fairview offers around 50 wines—from robust reds and elegant whites to Cap Classique and dessert styles. Signature ranges include Goats do Roam, Fairview Classic, Bloemcool, and Regional Revival, with Shiraz at the heart of the portfolio. Under cellar master Anthony de Jager, the wines showcase terroirs from Darling, Swartland, Paarl, and Piekenierskloof, earning numerous accolades, including top honours in the Platter’s 2026 Guide.
The deli and bakery brim with artisanal breads, preserves, charcuterie, olives, and over 50 styles of cow and goats’ milk cheeses—South Africa’s most awarded range, all Halaal and Kosher certified. At the Goatshed restaurant, Mediterranean-inspired dishes celebrate farm-fresh ingredients in a relaxed setting overlooking the vineyards and goats, with a children’s’ menu.
